Every year on the last Monday in May, we celebrate Memorial Day, a day spent honoring the men and women who passed away while serving in the United States military. It officially became a holiday in 1971. Many Americans spend the day visiting ceremonies and memorials or even participating in parades! Here are some memorial events happening this weekend in Southern California:
1. The Go For Broke Monument (Los Angeles, CA)
Located in the historical district of Little Tokyo in Los Angeles,
CA, this monument stands for all the Japanese soldiers of World War II. The monument itself is engraved with names of
more than 16,000 Japanese American men and women who served during the war.

2. Canoga Park Memorial Day Parade 2017 (Canoga Park/Chatsworth, CA)
This is the 28th annual parade that will feature plenty of floats all of which are very patriotic. The parade will also feature live music from bands and choral groups as well as people participating down the parade route. The parade takes place Monday, May 29th at 11 am (opening ceremony is at 10 am)

3. Anaheim Cemetery Memorial Day Program (Anaheim, CA)
May 29th at 11 am, come gather in front of the Community Mausoleum at the Anaheim Cemetery to honor all of those who have served our country. There will be speakers, a rifle volley salute, color guard and a presentation wreath. The address is 1400 E. Sycamore St. Anaheim, CA 92805.

4. Memorial Day Ceremony (Huntington Beach, CA)
Every year the American Legion Post 133 puts on this heartfelt event. This Monday May 29th at 11 am, there will be a proverbial 21 gun salute, solo sounds of trumpet playing, and the official raising of the American Flag. The event will take place at Pier Plaza (1 Main St. Huntington Beach, CA 92648)
5. Knott’s Berry Farm Military Days and Memorial Sunday Fireworks (Buena Park, CA)
On Memorial Day eve, Knott’s Berry Farm will have their spectacular fireworks show. If you are an active, veteran, and retired member of the United States military Knott’s Berry Farm is awarding free admission to all their festivities! This is ongoing from May 26th to May 28th at 10 am.
