Little Tokyo has added a new breakfast and lunch restaurant to its eclectic collection of local eateries. Earlier this month, JiST Cafe opened on Judge John Aiso Street next to the Union Center for the Arts (in the former location of the Tokyo Cafe). JiST Cafe is co-owned by Glen Ishii and Caroline Shin, who previously worked together at the Omni Hotel. Although they have a lot of experience in fine dining, JiST Cafe is about keeping the food and atmosphere simple.
JiST’s menu mixes Japanese food elements with traditional American breakfast and lunch staples. One of their most popular dishes is the Chashu Hash Skillet, which is also offered during lunch. The chashu pork uses a familiar tasting marinade, reminiscent of the delicious chashu offered at the recently closed Tokyo Cafe. Maybe that’s because JiST co-owner and chef Glen Ishii is the son of the couple behind Tokyo Cafe. Together with chef Caroline Shin, they are offering their own take on simple, fresh American dishes with a Japanese influence.
JiST Cafe is located at 116 Judge John Aiso Street in Little Tokyo. You can visit their website at jistcafe.com, where you can view their menu and also order online for delivery and pick-up. While they provide convenience with online ordering, delivery and pick-up, JiST has a very cheery, at-home atmosphere that you’ll want to come in to experience.
JiST Cafe is open Tuesday-Friday from 5am-3pm and Saturday-Sunday from 8am-4pm (closed on Monday).
