May is National Bike Month and L.A. County is celebrating with Bike Week (May 13-19)! This whole week will feature bike-related events, in an effort to encourage residents to ride their bikes as an alternative means of transportation.
The official kick-off event for Bike Week is this morning at Grand Park in Downtown L.A at 10am.
Here are the events for Bike Week 2013:
May 13 – Grand Park kick-off event @10am
May 13 – Fix Your Bike Day
Learn how to tune up your bike and get it ready for the road. Check out the link to find a participating bicycle co-op or shop in your area.
May 14 – Blessing of the Bicycles at Good Samaritan Hospital @8am
According to the event website, “The Blessing of the Bicycles is an opportunity for the community to recognize the advantages of taking alternative transportation to work”. To learn more about this event, check out the link here.
May 15 – Guided Bike Rides around L.A. County
Guided rides will be hosted by Cyclists Inciting Change through LIVE Exchange (C.I.C.L.E.), Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition (LACBC) and other local bicycle groups.
May 16 – Bike to Work Day
Metro (along with 11 other transit agencies) will be offering free rides to bicyclists. There will be “pit stops” around town offering water, snacks, repairs and more. If you haven’t loaded your bike onto a Metro bus before, check out the helpful illustrated instructions on the KCRW blog.
May 17-19 – Bike Local Weekend
Mention “Bike Week” at participating businesses and receive a special discount.
