It’s that time of year again! Everyone is busy making holiday plans and trying to use up expiring vacation hours – but what about your health insurance benefits? Most health insurance plans work on a calendar year basis, so benefits will start over on January 1, 2013. This also applies to Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs).
Here are a few things you should review before the end of the year:
Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) – these types of accounts are set up through your employer and allow you to put aside a portion of your earnings to help pay for eligible medical expenses, such as copays, prescriptions, and eyeglasses. Any funds leftover will be lost at the end of the year, so it’s best to use them up.
Dental – have you seen your dentist lately? Now is a good time to take advantage of your annual cleaning and check up.
Vision – most vision plans have an annual frame and/or contact lens benefit. Make sure to review your coverage, so you don’t miss out.
Annual Preventive Care & Check-up – most medical insurance plans provide coverage for annual preventive care and check-ups at no cost to the patient – and you don’t need to fulfill your medical deductible to receive this benefit. If you haven’t seen your doctor this year, now would be a good time to make an appointment.
